Connect With A Counsellor
Client Information – before you choose a counsellor
Seeking
help can feel hard. Connecting with someone you don’t know for support
can be a big step. Read through the information on this website and the
links on this page in particular so you know more before selecting a
counsellor to work with.
To know more about P.A.T.H.S. Counselling Partners goto Counselling Partners
To know more about counselling per se goto Counselling Services
It is our hope that you can link in with someone and receive the
support you need. You can link directly with a counsellor on this
weblist, or you can call 0800 728 47 or email chrissie@postabortionpaths.org.nz to share what is happening for you and discuss options e.g. Skype counselling, private Facebook Group, other supports.
- When you choose a counsellor, you will engage with that counsellor
in their own private practice. All PCPs are independent professional
counsellors, or allied professionals, so all negotiations and aspects
of your needs can be discussed with your counsellor.
- PCPs are independent counsellors who charge fees for their service.
If the fee is difficult for you do check to see if the PCP will
negotiate a lesser fee. In some cases of hardship or if you have a
Community Services Card, you can apply to WINZ (Work and Income New
Zealand) for Disability Allowance for Counselling and may receive
assistance. The forms for this are available from your doctor, and have
to be signed by your doctor and the counsellor you are working with.
- You may or may not have had counselling before. If you have your
previous experiences may colour how you feel reaching out for help now.
If you haven’t had counselling before then this can feel like a huge
step. Talk about how you are feeling about coming for counselling with
your counsellor.
- This weblist provides information about the location of different
counsellors, their professional affiliation and a bit about them,
contact details, availability of counselling or Skype support and fees.
Note: P.A.T.H.S. does not take responsibility for the choice
of counsellor you make or the PCP’s practice. However, we do welcome
feedback on your experience. Download Feedback Form. This helps us maintain a standard of service and improve our services.

Together, clients and I identify what they’d like to achieve in
counselling – and my role is to work collaboratively with them towards
achieving their goals.
